Girls in our world are beautiful and sometimes vulnerable; in some places more than in others. That is why MF, from the start, is focusing on Bussi-island, Victoria Lake, Uganda.
Common dedication & appreciation is inspiring for all involved - back and forth.
Their growth is ours and vice versa. Their laughter touches us and vice versa. Their future affects ours and vice versa. This common "ground" - where we work and learn together - inspires me and is filling me with hope and trust in a better future for the girls in our world.

After many inspiring and educational journeys to various African countries, I lost my heart to the African continent. In 2013 I travelled to Uganda for the first time, which trip turned out to be start of an even greater journey. Since then I have decided that I wanted to make a case for the accessibility of education for children, especially girls, in Uganda and to share this love and passion with a larger group of people. This eventually resulted in founding the MiekFoundation, named after one of the most beautiful girls I have ever met.

All children of the world deserve equal opportunities to develop themselves and become independent, strong and happy individuals in control of their own future and destiny. This starts with great education. Fortunately for us, this is a given in our privileged part of world. Unfortunately for many children and especially girls in large parts of Africa, going to high quality and safe schools is not a given at all.
This is why we set up the MiekFoundation to create opportunities for as many girls and their communities as possible. All in the name of one of the happiest girls who has always remained a child: Miek!

I am very grateful to be part of this now and with ao. my local connections to help achieve the Foundation’s ambitious and important goals. Through close collaboration with local partners and a broad approach, we ensure the right impact in a sustainable way.

I am truly humbled by Miek Foundation’s work to support young girls to go to school and have a chance to achieve their life aspirations. The opportunity to stay in school is a game changer that also benefits their families and the development of Uganda as a whole. I am especially grateful to partner with the Foundation having been a beneficiary of scholarships from similar foundations to obtain an education my family would never have been able to afford. Supporting Miek Foundation achieve its mission gives me the privilege, in a small way, to pay it forward for young Ugandans.
